Having trouble scanning to a network folder (SMB) with Windows 7?

Microsoft has recently release KB4480970 / KB4480960 patch updates for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 RS2 SP1, which have been causing issues for users and organizations having difficulties scanning documents to their existing network folder via SMB protocol on the respective Windows operating system.

The roll out of this update was issue on January 8, 2019, according to Microsoft, it is an improvement in security, providing protection against administrator and its subclass group access rights. The workaround?

Option 1

Create a new user account

Option 2

Manually remove user account from the administrator group

Option 3

Manually uninstall the patch update and regain access rights

Option 4

Follow “Let me fix it myself” on the above Microsoft link to enable privilege rights

Download” the autofix service patch to enable privilege rights. (Please note user are assume all responsibility associated with enabling account privilege rights, using the autofix)
